Mō mātou
About Oranga Tamariki

He mea whakakapi te ingoa o Oranga Tamariki i ngā mahi ka mahia e mātou.

  • Ko te ‘Oranga’ koia te oranga e hiahiatia ana mā ngā tamariki.
  • Ko te ‘Tamariki’ he mea whakamahara he kākano te tamaiti i ruia mai i Rangiātea. Whanau mai ai te tamaiti me te mana i roto tonu i a ia, ka whakahekea ai taua mana e te mahi tūkino, manaaki-kore hoki.

Ka tautoko mātou i ngā tamariki me ngā whānau ki te whakapiki anō i tā rātou mana, ta rātou kiritau, ā rātou hononga, whanaungatanga, tā rātou matatika ki te whakaora me te whakarauora, kia hua mai ai ā rātou pitomata.

E whakapono ana mātou mehemea he tika te taiao, kei waenganui hoki rātou i ngā tāngata tika e atawhai ana i a rātou, ka puāwai rātou ahakoa ko wai te tamaiti. E ngākau nui a Oranga Tamariki ki te tautoko i ngā tamariki katoa o Aotearoa e noho tino mōrearea ana tōna oranga ināianei, ā ngā rā e tū mai nei rānei. Ka mahi hoki i te taha o te hunga rangatahi kua hara, ka hara rānei pea.

The name ‘Oranga Tamariki’ encapsulates what we do.

  • ‘Oranga’ is the wellbeing we want to help the children we work with to have.
  • ‘Tamariki’ reminds us that children are descended from greatness. They are born with an inherent mana that can be damaged by abuse and neglect.

We support tamariki, family and whānau to restore their mana, their sense of self, their important connections and relationships, their right to heal and recover, and reach their potential.

Our belief is that in the right environment, with the right people surrounding and nurturing them, any child can and should flourish. We are dedicated to supporting any child in New Zealand whose wellbeing is at significant risk of harm now or in the future. We also work with young people who may have offended or are likely to offend.
