Deputy Chief Executive, People and Capability

  • Responsible for the Corporate Services functions including People, Commercial Operations and Finance.

The Ministry of Social Development (MSD) is seeking an experienced senior manager with a proven track record of managing change, including developing and delivering major corporate strategies and systems.  You will be accountable for the people and capability, finance, infrastructure, procurement, property, and facilities functions ,as well as a range of hosted functions.  As the Deputy CE, you will contribute to the strategic vision and be responsible for several high-level, strategic, and operational outcomes, alongside having a strong commitment to te ao Māori and te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Reporting to the CE, and working closely with the senior leadership team, you will provide strategic direction across the Corporate Services functions, ensuring the Ministry remains relevant and culturally strong, delivering excellent services and outcomes to New Zealanders.  This role reports to the Chief Executive and you will be an integral member of a supportive senior leadership team.

You will have extensive senior/general management experience and have a sound knowledge of issues related to a multifaceted and demanding environment.  You will have experience in leading and managing finances within a public sector environment and in overseeing significant budgets. You will ensure that a people capability plan is in place for the Group, one that supports the achievement of MSD’s goals and objectives.

To be successful in the role, you will be a motivated, highly organised individual with excellent communication skills, have exceptional relationship-building skills, and proven ability to influence and negotiate to achieve beneficial outcomes.  You will have relevant tertiary qualifications and you may have held a similar role, or you may want to take that next step up.

Your interpersonal and communication skills will ensure you work effectively with a broad range of people within and outside the organisation. Above all, you will demonstrate honesty, integrity, diplomacy, and a sense of fairness.
