The Ministry of Justice is looking for a media advisor with a background in journalism who wants to further their career in a core government agency. In this role you would work as part of a great team and be supported and coached to develop your skills.
About the Ministry
The Ministry provides policy advice to the government on the justice system and constitution, and helps the Crown honour its responsibilities to Māori. It also administers courts and tribunals, the legal aid system, and the Public Defence Service.
About the role
In this role you will:

  • Work as part of the media and social media unit
  • Help manage incoming media enquiries
  • Identify and develop content for digital and social channels, including video
  • Identify and pitch news story ideas to media outlets
  • Provide advice on how internal business units should respond to issues and official correspondence
  • Work collaboratively with people across the Ministry to give excellent general communications support, as well as media advice
  • Lead moderately complex communications projects
  • Develop and implement communications and stakeholder plans.

Who are we looking for?
To be successful you will have:

  • A background as a journalist
  • Preferably, some communications experience
  • The ability to self-manage in a busy, dynamic, deadline-driven environment
  • A good risk radar and sound judgment.
  • Experience with social media, and videography would be desirable.
