Chief Executive Officer

  • Support the minerals & aggregate sector.
  • Enable socially & environmentally responsible mining.

Straterra is an industry membership organisation that represents and advocates for New Zealand’s minerals and the mining sector by participating in public policy processes; engaging with politicians, government officials, stakeholders, industry, and the public; and helping bring the perceptions of extractive industries into the world as we find it today. They work closely with the Aggregate & Quarry Association (AQA), and MinEx, the national Health & Safety Council for the extractives sector. All three entities operate out of the same Wellington office.

You’ll prepare for Board consideration, the annual business plan and implement it; manage the affairs of Straterra, including the leased office space and associated sub tenancies; manage the small high performing Straterra team including policy work, administration, the shared resources and relationship with MinEx and AQA and external contractors.  Your team will work across multiple functions, including strategy, policy & advocacy, technical, media & communications, events, membership, tenancies, and engagement.  Your focus will be to speak for the sector, help guide strategy and planning, and manage and grow the individuals and the team.
We’re searching for a proven senior leader with the background and skills to engage constructively and to represent the sector with integrity, fairness, and a high level of respect for science and evidence.  You’ll have a reputation for effectively communicating and working with a full range of stakeholders including those with whom Straterra seeks to collaborate and those it would look to inform and influence. It would be useful if you have knowledge and experience in central and local government process, policy, legislation, media engagement and mining and the minerals sector or other primary sector experience. You will be recognised as a clear and compelling communicator and a superb relationship manager.
