The Chief Censor (a statutory appointment) is both the leader of the Office of Film and Literature Classification and Chair of the Classification Office Board. The Office is the Government body responsible for classifying publications that may need to be restricted or banned in New Zealand, including films, books, computer files and gaming.
  
The Chief Censor manages the Office and staff, sets the strategic direction, and oversees the delivery of agreed outcomes. Amongst these outcomes is a requirement to fulfill a range of legislative and statutory functions. The Office operates in a complex media and online content environment with the Chief Censor being accountable to the Minister of Internal Affairs.
  
To be considered for this appointment, you must be a proven senior leader with extensive experience and understanding of central government. You will be an effective people leader and display exceptional judgment and decision-making. You must be a person of resilience and self-awareness who can keep yourself and other staff safe and supported.
  
Having a focus on diversity, te ao Māori, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi Principles is essential. A background in supporting ethical and professional standards and experience of operating within a legal environment would be desirable. So too, would be experience in media, online technology and entertainment.
