Private Secretary

The Earthquake Commission (EQC), Kōmihana Rūwhenua is seeking an experienced Private Secretary to liaise with its Minister for an 18-month fixed term. It will be an exciting time with a modernised EQC Bill making its way through Parliament, and EQC working to ensure its work improves New Zealand’s resilience to natural hazards across a wide range of cross-government initiatives.
What you will do

In this role you will:

  • Be the key contact between the Minister, and EQC, Treasury and Southern Response Earthquake Services
  • Update the Finance Minister on EQC and other related matters
  • Use your knowledge of government processes to build effective stakeholder relationships
  • Provide excellent advice to Ministers and their advisors.

What you will bring

The successful candidate will have:

  • The ability to:
    • work effectively within the Minister’s Office, and with other Ministers and senior officials
    • exercise sound judgement and maintain confidentiality
    • manage difficult situations while prioritising Ministerial requirements
  • A sound understanding of the machinery of government, and Cabinet processes
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills
  • A good risk radar and the ability to develop mitigation strategies
  • Experience providing high-level policy and/or technical advice at a senior level.
