Ngā Manu Nature Reserve covers 14 hectares and encompasses a valuable and rare fragment of original lowland swamp forest on the Kāpiti Coast. The Trust’s kaupapa is rooted in its goals to preserve and enhance native forests so that their inhabitants can flourish, and to provide visitors with exceptional access to nature. People are at the heart of Ngā Manu whether volunteers, staff members or visitors and the Trust’s focus is to ensure that their engagement with the Reserve is rewarding and long-lasting.

You will be passionate about conservation, an accomplished leader, effective communicator, and business developer. Your financial acumen, including well proven ability to sustainably grow income and control costs, will be another of your strengths. Your empathy for, understanding of and commitment to te ao Māori will contribute to deepening mutually rewarding relationships with iwi Māori, and in particular, mana whenua.  

You will be responsible for continuing to improve organisational viability and progress plans to enhance the visitor experience which includes the redevelopment of the Visitor Centre and the completion of a feasibility study for a Forest Canopy Walkway. The Trust will expect you to build and sustain effective relationships with key stakeholders including the Kāpiti Coast District Council and with other organisations that are critical to Ngā Manu’s conservation work and which underpins our commitment to connect people to nature.
