The Independent Māori Statutory Board (the Board) represents a voice for Māori across Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland). The Board and supporting Secretariat is a body corporate separate from and independent of the Auckland Council. The Board’s Mission is: Te tōnuitanga i ngā pānga Māori i Tāmaki Makaurau – to advance the interests of Māori in Tāmaki Makaurau.
Your focus will include:
- Ensuring Māori can have existing marae developed by a council that respects and genuinely considers the importance of marae to Māori
- Establishing Te Reo Māori as a recognised taonga and integral part of Māori cultural expression within Tāmaki Makaurau
- Ensuring Māori retain a sense of place and identity, and the wider community understands the value of diversity and embraces our culture.
Your skills and experience will include:
- Leadership and the ability to influence and create a cultural alignment
- An understanding of the importance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi within the Local Government environment
- Te reo Māori me ōna tikanga
- Enthusiasm to affect change for Māori in Tāmaki Makaurau
- Comprehensive verbal and written communication skills
- Competency in providing advice to stakeholders, including Board members
- Able to navigate political relationships and environments
- Able to build productive relationships
