Senior Budget Analyst

The Cook Islands Government Ministry of Finance and Economic Management (MFEM) is offering a great opportunity to live and work in a tropical paradise as a Senior Budget Analyst within the Economic Planning Division located in Avarua, Rarotonga.

Reporting through to the Deputy Director Economic Planning Division you will be part of a team that contributes to the development of the Cook Islands Government’s strategic direction. Given the size of the organisation, your responsibilities will be broad and varied including providing senior technical, budgetary, and planning tactical analysis across all Cook Island Ministries and Agencies to strengthen decision making. You also will provide quality assurance budget documents including verification and quantitative and qualitative analysis of fiscal data. You will also be called upon to represent MFEM at numerous meetings on a range of budget related areas.

You will possess:

  • A tertiary qualification in finance, accounting, economics or similar,
  • A minimum 4 years’ experience in a similar role,
  • Knowledge and experience of, or an interest in, the Cook Islands political, economic, cultural and social structures.

The ideal candidate will bring a range of skills including problem solving, negotiating, an analytical mindset, strong attention to detail and highly developed communication. You will have the discretion to treat sensitive material appropriately. Experience in the public sector with an understanding of the machinery of government will be a distinct advantage.
