The Medical Sciences Secretariat supports two authorities (Medical Radiation Technologists Board and Medical Sciences Council) which regulate three professions and around 7000 practitioners. It supports the authorities in meeting their legislative responsibilities to ensure the protection of the health and safety of the public. Based in central Wellington, the Secretariat is led by a CEO and is staffed by registration/recertification coordinators and corporate administration.

The Registrar is responsible for providing advice and support to the authorities, in accordance with the HPCA Act, and to lead a team of six staff. The appointee will be able to interpret complex legislation (but not necessarily be legally qualified) and have a sound knowledge of professional regulatory legislation. Team leadership, well-developed communications skills and a knowledge of policy development will be important. Experience gained from the health sector would also be beneficial.

We are seeking a person who is flexible and adaptable to operate effectively in a smaller-team environment. The Secretariat offers an excellent work/life balance and a great team culture.
