  • Play a key role in a high performing, ambitious, and respected organisation.
  • Work with senior public sector leaders to improve Māori Crown capability.

The Office for Māori Crown Relations – Te Arawhiti is dedicated to fostering strong, ongoing and effective relationships with Māori across Government. Our name symbolises the bridge between Māori and the Crown, the past and the future, and the journey from grievance to partnership.

Te Arawhiti’s kaupapa is to make the Crown a better Treaty partner – to re-set, sustain, and build the Māori Crown relationship towards true Treaty partnership.

The Manager Public Sector Capability and Engagement will work across the public sector to help government agencies enhance their capability to work with Māori. This new senior role offers you the chance to make your mark by delivering on an important and increasingly visible kaupapa.

The role requires an experienced people leader and strategic thinker who can focus and prioritise activity to bring about sustainable improvement in how Government agencies work with Māori. You will need to be able to lead a team which will develop a systems approach, including resources and training for Government agencies. You will also be confident enough to promote and foster meaningful engagement with Māori at all levels of the public sector, including senior leadership. By using a systems approach to build sector capability, and through your advice to Government agencies about Māori Crown relations you will help lift capability across the public sector.

This role will suit someone with high energy, strong influencing and training skills, and excellent stakeholder engagement abilities, who is passionate about supporting the Crown to strengthen its relationships with Māori. You will have a strong understanding of the machinery of Government and how to drive change in this environment. You will also understand the complex issues that need to be addressed to meaningfully lift cultural capability and significantly enhance Māori Crown relationships.
