Te Puni Kōkiri is the government’s Principal Policy Advisor on Māori outcomes. It works within government and within communities to achieve its vision of Thriving Whānau. The government’s wellbeing priorities for all New Zealanders includes a strong focus on lifting Māori wellbeing, and increasing state sector responsiveness to Māori. To achieve these goals Te Puni Kōkiri keeps a clear focus on the issues that matter most to Māori, prioritising high-level, high-impact work that promotes wellbeing.
As a member of the executive leadership team you will support Ministers achieve greater wellbeing outcomes for Māori by defining the strategic direction for the Ministry and translating it into actions that your team can put in place with immediate effect.
You and your team will be focussed on:
- brokering opportunities with whānau, hapū, iwi and Māori through the agency’s regional footprint in areas that are strategic priorities for the government
- providing support for government agencies
- managing investment in innovative initiatives leading to intergenerational transformation.
You’ll be known for your:
- proven experience as a member of an executive team
- demonstrated strategic and systems leadership across the public service
- proven experience building and managing large operational national and regional teams
- excellent understanding of the machinery of government
- experience briefing Ministers and gaining their trust
- results orientation
- bilingual competence
- significant experience working with iwi and hapū and whānau Māori
- creative thinking.
